In addition to this screening, we are also collaborating with Transition Leytonstone on another great event for the Leytonstone Festival:

Spirit of ’45 at the Leytonstone Festival

In July, as part of the yearly Leytonstone Festival, we are organising a free screening of Ken Loach’s new documentary, Spirit of ‘45.

  • Date: Friday July 12th
  • Venue: Leytonstone Library, 6 Church Lane, E11 1HG
  • Time: Doors open at 6.30pm for light refreshments, the film will start at 7pm.
  • Advance tickets may be ordered via Eventbrite
  • This screening is free of charge; donations gratefully accepted.

Spirit of 45 celebrates the postwar era, a period of unprecedented community spirit in the UK, the impact of which endured for many years, and which may yet be rediscovered today. In Ken Loach’s own words: “Generosity, mutual support and co-operation were the watchwords of the age. It is time to remember the determination of those who were intent on building a better world.”

Is Leytonstone already on track to regain that wonderful community spirit in 2013? A panel discussion follows the film.

Panelists:

  • James Meadway, film participant and senior economist, nef
  • Ann Williams, allotment holder, historian and community activist
  • Jon Rackham, Transition Leytonstone Steering Group
  • Christine Corion, Church Lane Community Garden
